Elliot's first piano recital

Finally got around to posting this. Missed the bow at the end. Dad needs to keep working on his videographer skills.

Squash heads

This was mostly Julie's idea but credit for Elliot's Frenchman mustache goes to Jenny. Natalie's "underbite" is pure gold.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Elliot, Maeve and the rest of the LaSalle II Chinese students put on a big time show tonight. Elliot was the leader of the turnip skit and did a superb job.

Overnight at Grandpa and Grandma's House -- Julie's birthday

The kids made a sweet birthday snowman and strawberry cake for Jules.

Chinese New Year Parade

Took the  CTA to see the parade today. Natalie loved the princesses and "shake a booty" girls from the high school drum team. The dragons were not real. The inclusion of exclusively suburban African American marching bands and the Shannon Rovers on the same program is a testament to something. I am not sure what.

Winter Camping (sorta)

Grandpa Larry would not count this as winter camping.

I've been trying to convince Elliot to sleep in the snow tunnel in the back yard. Somehow saying that "Grandpa did it back in the olden times" doesn't seem to be sufficient.

Another crazy winter day

We had a pretty big day. It started with with sledding at Humboldt Park. On the way home, we noticed that someone was nice enough to move the burned van out of the center of the intersection but it still hasn't been towed away. We also built a snow fort in the back yard and went on a long hike to The Butcher & Larder to get some goodies for the Super Bowl. Elliot climbed up every snow drift on the entire loop.

The alley has been half shoveled but it is still a wreck.

Icy Commute

Delays on the CTA led me to walk to work today. The best way was in the northbound bike lane of Milwaukee Avenue.

Snomageddon Van Fire

This happened at the corner of Thomas and Hoyne at 8am today. Apparently, the driver got stuck and revved his engine so much that the transmission overheated and burst into flames. The fire department couldn't get down the street to put it out. Instead, they shoveled snow on it until the fire was under control. As of 4:30, the tires were still smoking.

Thundersnow - it's for real

We decided to head into my office in the big blizzard. We got a lot of laughs. It seems that people don't see many cross country skiiers on the CTA.

Poor Natalie, she got cold feet by the time we hit the Damen Stop and cried on the platform until the train arrived. Some good advice from my colleague Liz Schuh  (plastic bags over her little feet) and the trip home went super smoothly.

We just finished the panic shoveling so that tonight's -10 temps don't turn our gangway into a foot and a half of ice.
